London newspaper the Evening Standard has named Dezeen founder Marcus Fairs as one of the city's 1,000 most influential figures.

Fairs is included in the Progress 1,000 list of influencers from all walks of life including culture, health, business and politics.

Unveiled earlier this week, the annual list celebrates the people who have done most to drive change in society.

Fairs appears in the design section of the list, alongside designers including Paul Priestman, Yinka Ilori and Es Devlin, Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic and critic Alice Rawsthorn.

In its citation, the newspaper highlights Dezeen's huge international audience of over 2.5 million monthly visitors and Dezeen Hot List, our survey of the most newsworthy figures in architecture and design.

The list also contains a section about architects, which includes David Chipperfield, Alison Brookes and new Architectural Association director Eva Franch i Gilabert.

Fairs founded Dezeen in 2003. In 2013 he was named one of the 100 most influential figures in the UK's creative industries and in 2016 he became the first digital journalist to be made an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
